International ONLINE Competition of the German Flute Society e.V. for young flutists 2022 in the category flute solo

The aim of this competition is to give young flutists the chance to present their skills on an international platform, to compete with colleagues of their age, to develop their individual strengths and to present them. This includes key competences such as instrumental and artistic skills, stage presence and individual presentation. This strengthens and enhances the international dimension of youth activities. Through feedback from an international jury, participants receive encouragement to improve the quality of their performance and thus enhance their chances in international competition.

The competition is open to flute solo without accompaniment. Solo concertos and works with continuo accompaniment are not permitted. The competition will be divided into 2 categories:


Category 1 – Non-Professionals

for children, teenagers and young adults who have not yet started professional musical training. They are divided into three age groups (cut-off date in each case is 31 March 2022):

  • Group I: 12-14 years | Duration of lecture: 5 –10 minutes
  • Group II: 15-17 years | Duration of lecture 10 – 15 minutes
  • Group III: 18-20 years | Duration of lecture 10 – 15 minutes

Competition programme

The competition programme consists of a mandatory work and one or more works or movements from another period within the required playing time. Arrangements for solo flute are permitted. Individual works may be presented in individual videos as well as in a complete video; individual works or movements may not be edited. The recordings must not be older than 6 months. Group I: J.Donjon – Huit Études de Salon – Nr. 3 «Le Chant du Vent»
Group II: G.Ph.Telemann – Fantasie – Nr. 12, G-Moll
Group III: Pierre-Octave Ferroud – Trois Pièces pour Flûte seule – «I Bergère Captive»


Category 2 – Professionals

For students with flute as their main instrument up to the age of 22 (deadline 31.3.2022). The competition will be held in one round and the duration of the performance is 15 - 25 minutes.
