BFS Convention 2012

17-20 August 2012, Manchester

The British Flute Society is inviting proposals from performers, presenters and workshop leaders for its eighth international Convention, which takes place at the RNCM in Manchester from 17-20 August 2012.

In the year when the Olympics are being hosted in the UK, this convention is celebrating the wide flute community around the world, including those who play, teach, listen and compose for the flute, as well as those who are involved in the flute trade. We are seeking proposals covering a range of flute-related activities,  including recitals, masterclasses, flute ensembles, lecture recitals, repair workshops, chamber music, trade demos, the physiology and psychology of performance and research presentations, and covering a range of musical genres including renaissance to contemporary classical music, jazz and world music.

Alongside our general call for submissions, we are interested in receiving specific applications for the following:

Masterclass performers

The 2012 convention will include masterclasses covering a wide range of repertoire and playing standards, from young beginners to experienced players.

Call for Scores

We would be interested to receive scores from composers of any new works for flute, including solo, ensemble and chamber music works.

The Flute in Research

We would be interested in receiving submissions for papers and lecture recitals from those involved in practice-based research regarding the flute.

For specific information about these, please contact the

Programme Director at carlarees@bfs.org.uk.

Submissions forms can be downloaded from the BFS website at www.bfs.org.uk

For general information regarding the British Flute Society, please contact Anna Munks, Secretary  - secretary@bfs.org.uk

The closing date for applications is 30th June 2011.
